Whitney Houston accidentally drowned in the bathtub in her Beverly Hills Hilton suite, the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office has ruled.

The toxicology results show that Houston, who struggled with drug addiction in the past, had cocaine in her system, which contributed to her death. A coroner’s spokesman tells the Associated Press that the drug report indicates Houston was a chronic cocaine user. Heart disease was also named as a factor.
There has been much speculation that Houston may have had a problem with prescription drugs because investigators found pill bottles in her room, but while the toxicology report showed Houston had Xanax, Flexeril and Benadryl in her system (as well as marijuana), they were not believed to have played a role in her death.

A Houston aide found the singer unresponsive in the bathtub on Feb. 11, hours before she was to perform at her mentor Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy Awards party. Houston’s sister-in-law and manager Pat Houston told Oprah Winfrey earlier this month that one of Houston’s security guards performed CPR on the singer “to the point of exhaustion.” Emergency workers were unable to revive Houston.
“We are saddened to learn of the toxicology results, although we are glad to now have closure,” Pat Houston tells the AP.
The singer was eulogized in a star-studded ceremony at Newark’s New Hope Baptist Church February 18, 2012, and buried the following day next to her father’s grave in Westfield. She is survived by her 19 years old daughter, Bobbi Kristina.
