Olympics Basketball 2012: star-packed USA clashes with Nigeria

The U.S has LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony etc while Nigeria holds some NBA talents including Al-Farouq Aminu of the Hornets. Regardless of the stars all over the American team, no one should under-estimate the resolve of the Nigerian team. A key member of the team Ike Diogu, a former top-10 NBA draft pick cautions that "We will not be intimidated by those guys…. A lot of us went to school in the U.S. and have played against those guys. We have no reason to feel overwhelmed." Unless a basketball miracle occurs, USAfrica analysts say the U.S team holds the advantage for victory. By Chido Nwangwu

Why President Jonathan’s retention of Adefuye as Nigeria’s Ambassador to USA exposes poor judgment....

With an almost complete failure to deal with Boko Haram, resurgent threats of militancy in the Niger Delta, broadening and unnerving sagas of monumental corruption over the fuel subsidy regime, and many more unnatural disasters that Nigeria faces today, it is most unfortunate that the President of Nigeria should shy away from leading the nation. President Jonathan seems to believe that he could preserve his administration by doing as little as possible. Leaving Adefuye in office is just a crystal example of the President choosing to do nothing and, by implication, choosing not to lead at a time that leadership is so critically needed.

USAfrica: President Jonathan’s critics are unfair, expect too much. By Benjamin Aduba

He did not become his own man until May 29, 2011. Therefore, Jonathan has been a president for just 8 months no matter what his critics write and say. Jonathan did not have a national constituency or following. He did not espouse any set of galvanizing agenda. He came from Baylesa, a riverine state which, in the estimation of some, is merely required to provide oil, but otherwise to keep quiet.
