The controversial claim by the former Governor of Edo state, Adams Oshiomhole, that the presidential candidate of the Labour Party of Nigeria, former Gov. Peter Obi is contributing to high unemployment in Nigeria has been challenged by the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN).
Oshiomole, a chieftain of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress and a senatorial candidate for Edo North, said “Obi owns the biggest shopping mall in Abuja and all the items sold there are imported. If he is selling imported wines, clothes and other items, he is contributing to why Nigeria is going down because he is creating jobs abroad and importing unemployment to Nigeria.”
In a news release to USAfrica and USAfricaonline.com, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones of the POSN said “Oshiomhole’s statement blaming Peter Obi for Nigeria’s economic woes, simply because the later imports most of the goods sold at his mall, only exposes the pathetic ignorance of the individuals that are calling the shots in our political space. It is government who stipulates a nation’s economic plan, not private businessmen. Peter Obi has rather helped the Nigerian economy by investing in businesses and bringing in goods that are of high demand in this country, and employing thousands of Nigerians who would have otherwise been without jobs, but for Peter Obi’s chains of businesses.”
