South Africa has announced a seasoned 15-man squad for the upcoming Champions Trophy in Pakistan, set to begin next month. The team includes 10 players who featured in the 2023 ICC World Cup in India, reflecting a commitment to experience and continuity.
Temba Bavuma will captain the squad as they compete in Group B. South Africa’s pool matches are scheduled against Afghanistan in Karachi on February 21, Australia in Rawalpindi on February 25, and England in Karachi on March 1.
Key Player Updates
Anrich Nortje returns to the squad after recovering from a left toe injury that ruled him out of the 2023 World Cup. Fellow seamer Lungi Ngidi, who missed the recent home series against Pakistan due to a groin injury, has also been included.
Coach Rob Walter emphasized the importance of experience in the squad, stating:
“This squad boasts a wealth of experience, with many players having consistently performed in high-pressure situations. That kind of experience is invaluable in a tournament like this.
“We’ve managed to maintain the core group of our 2023 World Cup squad, whilst adding fresh talent.
“Our recent performances show that we’re capable of reaching the latter stages of global tournaments. We’re eager to take the next step and go even further in pursuit of the coveted silverware,” Walter said during a virtual press conference.
