Tension continues to mount in Cameroon as citizens await the official announcement of election results by the Constitutional Council, now set for Thursday, October 23. The atmosphere remains tense, with several candidates claiming victory and uncertainty spreading among the population.
Issa Tchiroma, candidate of the Cameroon National Salvation Front (FSNC), has once again addressed his supporters and national authorities. Since Sunday, he has been releasing what he describes as official polling station reports in his possession, claiming they show him with a significant lead in the vote.
Meanwhile, the National Vote Counting Commission is still verifying and compiling the election results.
Earlier on Monday, Tchiroma made a direct appeal to outgoing President Paul Biya — who has ruled Cameroon for 43 years — urging him to “respect the will of the people and leave office with honor and integrity.” He warned that ending such a long tenure with alleged electoral fraud would tarnish Biya’s legacy.
Tchiroma also appealed to neighboring countries such as Nigeria and Chad, and to international partners including the African Union, European Union, United Nations, France, and the United States, urging them not to remain silent. He stressed that their intervention could be vital in maintaining peace and stability in Cameroon.
