Residents of Chikun and Igabi Local Government Areas issued a distress call, urging authorities to investigate the resurgence of criminal activity along the Kaduna Airport community. A community representative shared details on a WhatsApp group, reporting that the attacks have been concentrated in Kadi village and settlements along the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road. In only one week, the group reportedly stole 97 cattle.
Victims include Alhaji Abdullahi Mubari, who lost 47 cows; Bawa Abubakar, who lost 32; Dankawu Malam Bube, who lost 8; and Abdullahi Jafaru, who lost 10. “The situation is becoming unbearable,” the representative said. “Instead of abandoning crime, they still kidnap, kill, and rustle cattle freely, while nothing is done to stop them.”
Governor Uba Sani launched “the Kaduna Peace Model” in 2023, a strategy emphasizing grassroots engagement, inclusive governance, and rural development as an alternative to heavy military action. Despite these efforts, Kaduna State continues to struggle with banditry and communal violence.
The affected farmers are now calling for swift and decisive government action to prevent further losses and protect rural communities.
