In a very surprising turn, U.S. President Donald Trump said on Monday (March 23, 2026), that he has instructed the Pentagon to “postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy infrastructure for a five-day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings.”
He stated that this was a result of the ongoing “productive conversations” and “very good” talks since Saturday towards “a complete and total resolution” of conflicts in the Middle East.
The talks between the United States and Iran, he wrote in his social media post, will “continue throughout the week.”
Trump threatened to “obliterate” Iran’s power infrastructure upon the expiration of his Monday March 23 night ultimatum to the Islamic Republic of Iran to re-open — within 48 hours — the Strait of Hormuz.
