USAfricaonline.com on December 26, 2009 spoke to a very close family friend of the young man’s father in Nigeria, Nigeria business mogul Alhaji Umar Mutallab, former Chairman of First Bank PLC, who said “Alhaji Mutallab is flabbergasted by these turn of  events. It’s really sad but dangerous.” Security checks and info suggest his son has ties with radical, militant Islamic groups, especially in al-Qaeda infiltrated republic of Yemen.

Right is the picture of the alleged December 25, 2009 Christmas terrorism planner 23 years-old Farouk Abdul Mutallab. Until 2008, he lived in a swanky upscale family apartment in London, a reflection of the wealthy capacities of his Nigerian father who also has a Yemeni wife. Farouk also attended school, in part, in London, studying engineering.

Several versions of the incident in the plane emerged initially but the key points reflect that there was firecrackers/smoke/mild flame around his crouch which troubled passengers close to him; one of them tackled him.

Farouk has since been answering questions from the FBI and other security agents in Detroit for, allegedly, trying to blow up a Delta airlines plane enroute (Flight 235) on Christmas day December 25, 2009. His father has reportedly pledged to assist Nigerian and American security officials.
