Ghana’s home-based national team crashed out of the African Nations Championship (CHAN) in Sudan, scoring just a goal in the tournament under Coach Herbert Addo on Sunday, after losing 1-0 to lowly Niger.
Shockingly, the local Black Stars who finished second in the tournament two years ago, ended bottom of Group B scoring just one goal
Addo, who had the gut to apply to coach World Cup quarter finalists two months ago, led the country’s home-based team to a humiliating exit in a tournament meant only for home-based players.
In a group comprising a South African youth side, politically ravaged Zimbabwe and lowly Niger, Addo conspired against his country with his technical bankruptcy for the local Black Stars to finish bottom of the log.
Previous Ghana CHAN coach Milovan Rajevac built a team under two weeks and steered them to reach the final even without the benefit of a training tour.
Addo who claims he is the finest Ghanaian coach, dismantled the impressive 2009 squad and built his own team for over one year.
He also had the massive backing of the government and Ghana Football Association who funded a training tour of Kenya.
Yet Addo, fame in the 1990s for working with relegation threatened sides, broke the hearts of Ghanaians and brought disgrace to the country it what could be the country’s worst exit in any major international tournament. Ghana lost all three games in the first round.
Ghana had the chance to score at least two goals to qualify with three points alongside South Africa, who were able to beat Zimbabwe by two goals to one.
But the team after failing to score a single goal in the encounter with Niger worsened their plight by conceding a goal from Niger in the 85th minute of the game.
South Africa, who finished top of the group with nine points, have thus qualified alongside Niger. ref: Ghanasoccernet
Ghana's football seems to be on the decline.
Wow! How did that happen?
