USAfricaonline.com: John W. Thompson, an African-American and former vice-president at IBM, ex Chief Executive
Officer (CEO) of Symantec Corporation has made history again with his appointment and confirmation, today February 4, 2014, as chairman of Microsoft board of directors.
Thompson, born April 24, 1949 in Fort Dix, New Jersey, led the search for Microsoft’s CEO
which elevated Indian-born Satya Nadella as the third CEO of Microsoft; succeeding Steve Ballmer. Nadella served as executive vice president of Microsoft’s Cloud and Enterprise division.
The founder of Microsoft Bill Gates stepped down as executive chairman and in his words stepping up as “tech adviser” mainly for new products. He notes in a statement that “Satya is a proven leader with hard-core engineering skills, business vision and the ability to bring people together. His vision for how technology will be used and experienced around the world
is exactly what Microsoft needs as the company enters its next chapter of expanded product innovation and growth.”
Microsoft’s stock and market capitalization value have dropped, substantially; and has been lagging in the mobile/tablets category. Nadella has promised to push the cloud services of Microsoft to the level of first priority.
USAfrica and USAfricaonline.com Founder Chido Nwangwu assesses Microsoft former executive chairman thus: “Bill Gates as the most impactful, target-specific and greatest non-indigenous philanthropist touching lives across Africa through healthcare projects especially against malaria.”

—— 2014 forthcoming book: In this engaging, uniquely insightful and first person reportage book, MANDELA & ACHEBE: Footprints of Greatness, about two global icons and towering persons of African descent whose exemplary lives
and friendship hold lessons for humanity and Africans, the author Chido Nwangwu takes a measure of their works and consequence to write that Mandela and Achebe have left “footprints of greatness.”
He chronicles, movingly, his 1998 reporting from the Robben Island jail room in South Africa where Mandela was held for decades through his 20 years of being close to Achebe. He moderated the 2012 Achebe Colloquium at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island.”I’ll forever remember having walked inside and peeped through that historic Mandela jail cell (where he was held for most of his 27 years in unjust imprisonment) at the dreaded Robben Island, on March 27, 1998, alongside then Editor-in-chief of TIME magazine and later news chief executive of the CNN, Walter Isaacson (and others) when President Bill Clinton made his first official trip to South Africa and came to Robben Island. Come to this island of scourge and you will understand, in part, the simple greatness and towering grace of Nelson Mandela”, notes Chido Nwangwu, award-winning writer, multimedia specialist and founder of USAfricaonline.com, the first African-owned U.S-based newspaper published on the internet, in his first book; he writes movingly from his 1998 reporting from South Africa on Mandela. http://www.mandelaachebechido.com/
Why Jonathan should fight back, or Obasanjo will end his presidency. By Chido Nwangwu. https://usafricaonline.com/2013/12/19/why-president-jonathan-should-fight-back-or-obasanjo-will-end-his-presidency-by-chido-nwangwu/ Based on Obasanjo’s military antecedents, power attitude and drawing from my reading of his history as a leader, he will Not — for lack of a better word — “forgive” Jonathan despite his references to God and Christ, and to the great Nelson Mandela the same week as a forgiving leader. To be sure, Obasanjo does not have the forgiving spirit of Mandela….
