Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest oil refinery, has successfully exported its first shipment of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) to Cameroon, marking a significant milestone in regional energy collaboration. This achievement stems from a strategic partnership between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil, a prominent energy company in Cameroon.
The export and partnership were confirmed by Nairametrics, showcasing the refinery’s capacity to serve both domestic and regional markets.
Alhaji Aliko Dangote, President and CEO of the Dangote Group, hailed the development as a step toward achieving energy independence in Africa. He remarked:
“This first export of PMS to Cameroon is a tangible demonstration of our vision for a united and energy-independent Africa. With this development, we are laying the foundation for a future where African resources are refined and exchanged within the continent for the benefit of our people.”
Similarly, Antoine Ndzengue, Director and Owner of Neptune Oil, emphasized the transformative impact of the collaboration on Cameroon’s energy sector.
“This partnership with Dangote Refinery marks a turning point for Cameroon. By becoming the first importer of petroleum products from this world-class refinery, we are bolstering our country’s energy security and supporting local economic development. This initial supply, executed without international intermediaries, reflects our commitment to serving our markets independently and efficiently,” he stated.
The collaboration between Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil is expected to extend beyond the initial shipment. Both companies aim to establish a sustainable supply chain to stabilize fuel prices and support regional economic growth.
This first export underscores Dangote Refinery’s ability to address domestic energy demands while emerging as a critical player in the regional energy market. With a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, the Lagos-based facility is the world’s largest single-train refinery and a flagship project of the Dangote Group.
For Cameroon, this milestone signals enhanced energy independence. By sourcing PMS directly from Dangote Refinery, Neptune Oil reduces the country’s reliance on international intermediaries, thereby strengthening local energy security and fostering economic development.
This landmark partnership not only highlights a shared commitment to advancing intra-African trade but also paves the way for future collaborations. By leveraging local resources and fostering regional integration, both Dangote Refinery and Neptune Oil are setting a precedent for sustainable and inclusive economic growth across Africa.
