Cameroonian President Paul Biya hinted at his potential intention to remain in power beyond 2025 in his end-of-year address to the nation. His comments have fueled speculation about his plans for the upcoming presidential elections.
Biya described 2025 as “full of challenges,” a remark some observers interpreted as an indication of his desire to continue leading the Central African nation. This statement aligns with recent efforts by members of his party to promote his candidacy actively.
“I am attentive to the calls from members of our party,” Biya said, referring to the ongoing propaganda campaign launched by the ruling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (CPDM) to support his leadership.
At nearly 92 years old, with 40 years as head of state, Biya remains the sole candidate of the CPDM, according to the party’s constitution. His extended tenure underscores his dominant role in Cameroon’s political landscape, further solidifying his influence within the party and the country.
