At the 82nd Golden Globe Awards, Zoe Saldaña captivated audiences not only with her win as Best Supporting Actress for Emilia Pérez but also with her poignant reflections on her artistic journey and dedication to creativity. The star of Avatar and Guardians of the Galaxy shared candid and heartfelt insights during a post-award press interaction.
“I’m just, you know, I’m 46,” Saldaña began, reflecting on a period of uncertainty. “I was sort of thinking about plan Bs—like, do I go into a homestead and start planning a garden, baking goods, and becoming the sexiest soccer mom in my mind? But the truth is, I’m an artist through and through, and I need to create every day.”
Her words underscored the deep connection between her creativity and sense of purpose. “If not, I just don’t know what I can do. I don’t know why I’m here. And that’s how my loved ones can get the best of me—when I am allowed to create.”
Saldaña expressed profound gratitude to directors who trust her talent, including Jacques Audiard, the visionary filmmaker behind Emilia Pérez. “After conversations, auditions, and promises that I can do something, they really decide to bet on me. And it works,” she shared.
The actress also highlighted the enduring encouragement she receives from longtime collaborators. While attending the ceremony, Saldaña received a message from Avatar director James Cameron, who is currently in New Zealand editing Avatar: Fire and Ash. “After all these years, he believes in me,” she said. “That nourishes my desire to continue growing as an artist.”
Before the celebration of this year’s top films and television shows at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards, another luminary was honored. Viola Davis, a trailblazer in the entertainment industry, received the prestigious Cecil B. DeMille Award.
The 59-year-old actress accepted the accolade during the Golden Gala: A Celebration of Excellence on Friday, January 3, at The Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California. Named after the legendary filmmaker, the award recognizes extraordinary contributions to the entertainment industry.
