The Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) military justice system has issued an arrest warrant for Corneille Nangaa, accusing him of failing to prevent acts of torture under his authority. The warrant, signed by Colonel Magistrate Mbuta Muntu Parfait, mandates his immediate arrest and transfer to the DRC.
Nangaa, the former head of the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI), currently leads the Alliance du Fleuve Congo (AFC) and has been linked to the M23 rebel group, which recently seized control of Goma. Authorities allege his involvement in human rights violations, including the torture of a school director, amid ongoing clashes between the Congolese army (FARDC) and M23.
This development underscores the DRC’s commitment to holding key figures accountable in its prolonged conflict. As of now, Nangaa and his representatives have not issued any response.
