What was set to be a highly anticipated performance by international pop icon Shakira turned into a disappointment for fans on Saturday night, as the singer was forced to cancel her scheduled appearance at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C. The concert was part of the opening weekend festivities for WorldPride 2025, a global LGBTQ+ celebration currently underway in the U.S. capital.
According to event organizers, lingering equipment issues from Shakira’s earlier canceled show in Boston prevented her full stage setup from arriving in time for the D.C. performance.
“The Capital Pride Alliance says the opening ceremony will be relocated, but the full schedule of Pride events will go ahead as planned.”
Despite reduced international attendance largely attributed to global backlash over President Trump’s LGBTQ+ policies, U.S. tourism officials report that domestic interest remains high, with large crowds anticipated during the closing days of the celebration.
