Namibian President Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah has dismissed Natangwe Ithete from his positions as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry, Mines, and Energy, according to an official statement released by the presidency on Sunday.
“In the interest of ensuring continuity and effective coordination within this key sector, President Nandi-Ndaitwah will assume responsibility for the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Energy, effective immediately,” the statement read.
The presidency did not disclose any specific reason for Ithete’s removal.
Ithete, who was appointed to both roles in March as part of President Nandi-Ndaitwah’s newly formed administration, will retain his seat in parliament, the statement confirmed.
Namibia, rich in natural resources, is positioning itself for its first crude oil production by 2030 following several major discoveries in recent years. The country is also a leading producer of uranium and diamonds, key contributors to its economy.
