President Donald Trump has pledged to permanently end migration from what he termed “Third World countries,” promising to reverse immigration policies enacted under the Biden administration and expel individuals he deems “non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
In a detailed post on his social media platform, Trump accused the current U.S. immigration system of straining public resources and worsening social and economic challenges in several cities. Citing U.S. Census data, he claimed the foreign-born population has reached 53 million and argued that state and federal budgets face “unsustainable burdens” linked to migrant arrivals, a view immigration experts say oversimplifies the complexities of demographic and fiscal impacts.
Trump used the Thanksgiving message to sharply criticize former President Joe Biden’s immigration policies, blaming them for rising living costs, overwhelmed public infrastructure, and what he called “chaotic refugee resettlement.” He specifically pointed to Minnesota and other states as examples of communities he believes are “buckling under failed federal policies.”
Trump’s Statement on Migration
In an excerpt from his post, Trump wrote:
“I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States, or is incapable of loving our Country.”
“I will end all Federal benefits and subsidies to noncitizens, denaturalize migrants who undermine domestic tranquility, and deport any Foreign National who is a public charge, security risk, or non-compatible with Western Civilization.”
“These goals will be pursued with the aim of achieving a major reduction in illegal and disruptive populations… Only REVERSE MIGRATION can fully cure this situation.”
He concluded his message with a pointed holiday remark:
“Other than that, HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL, except those that hate, steal, murder, and destroy everything that America stands for. You won’t be here for long!”
Trump argued that the Biden administration’s immigration policies have created what he described as a “deep national strain,” though he did not outline any new policy framework or specific implementation plan.
Political Context
Analysts say Trump’s latest statement underscores his effort to reenergize his conservative base ahead of the next election cycle. Immigration has become one of the most divisive issues in U.S. politics, with polls showing it ranks among the top voter concerns, particularly among Republicans and right-leaning independents.
Trump’s message also came amid national mourning over a fatal shooting in Washington, D.C., where a Virginia National Guard member, 20-year-old U.S. Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, was killed and another soldier critically injured on the eve of Thanksgiving.
During a holiday call with military personnel, Trump described Beckstrom as “outstanding in every way” and praised her for volunteering to serve during the holiday period.
Authorities identified the suspect as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national who entered the United States in 2021 under the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome, a resettlement initiative for Afghans who assisted U.S. forces during the Afghanistan war. Officials said Lakanwal was wounded in an exchange of gunfire and remains hospitalized.
The Biden administration has not responded to Trump’s comments, though senior officials have previously defended current immigration policies as “humane, lawful, and essential to U.S. global commitments.”
