U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) spokesperson Zach Kahler has announced a major change in the immigration process of the country – especially regarding the “Green Card”.
The changes, announced on May 22, 2026, require that noncitizens in the United States who have applied for a Green Card, or for lawful permanent resident status, must leave the United States, indefinitely.
It will not matter if they are in the country legally and regardless of whether they have spouses or children with citizenship.
Green card petitioners will then be required to wait for their application to be processed outside the United States through the consular channels of the U.S. Department of State.
