German engineering company Neuman & Esser (NEA Group) has taken another major step in expanding its presence in Africa through a strategic partnership with MILAT Nigeria Limited, culminating in the official inauguration of an Authorized and Certified Service Centre in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The facility represents a significant investment in Nigeria’s industrial future and reinforces the country’s growing importance as a regional hub for engineering, energy and manufacturing services.
The newly commissioned service centre will provide OEM-certified compressor maintenance, repair, overhaul, component refurbishment and engineering support, enabling customers across Nigeria and neighbouring West African countries to access world-class technical services without relying heavily on overseas facilities.
The collaboration combines nearly two centuries of German engineering excellence from Neuman & Esser with the local expertise and market experience of MILAT Nigeria, creating what industry observers see as a major boost for Nigeria’s industrial and energy sectors.
Speaking during the inauguration, Dr. Jiří Rus, Sales Director for Africa at the Neuman & Esser Group, described the project as far more than the opening of another workshop. “It was not only an opening ceremony; it was a real milestone for Neuman & Esser, MILAT Nigeria, and our esteemed customers and partners,” he said.
According to him, the project reflects the company’s commitment to supporting local talent through technical training and development while advancing its long-term growth strategy across Africa.
The investment also aligns with Nigeria’s local content policy by strengthening indigenous technical capacity, reducing maintenance turnaround times and improving operational reliability for critical industrial equipment used in the oil, gas and energy sectors.
USAfricaonline.com notes that for MILAT Nigeria Limited, the partnership represents another landmark achievement under the leadership of its Chief Executive Officer, Engineer Obi Okereke. In an interview, Engr. Okereke told USAfrica publisher Chido Nwangwu that “This is a technological proof that we can develop capabilities and synergies to benefit our customers, locally and timely.”
A seasoned engineering professional, Okereke has transformed MILAT Nigeria into one of the country’s respected industrial engineering companies through innovation, strategic partnerships and sustained investment in technical excellence. Under his leadership, the company has continued to expand its capabilities while earning the confidence of global industry leaders.
Beyond providing maintenance and repair services, the Port Harcourt facility will serve as a centre for knowledge transfer, advanced engineering support and technical capacity development. Nigerian engineers and technicians will receive continuous training designed to meet Neuman & Esser’s global quality standards, helping to build a highly skilled local workforce capable of delivering internationally certified services.
The collaboration with Neuman & Esser is regarded as one of the most significant milestones in MILAT’s history, positioning the Nigerian company among a select group of indigenous firms trusted to deliver OEM-certified engineering services to international standards.
Industry analysts believe the alliance demonstrates growing confidence by leading global manufacturers in Nigerian engineering companies and reflects the increasing role of indigenous businesses in driving Africa’s industrial development.
The establishment of the Port Harcourt Service Centre is also expected to create employment opportunities, facilitate technology transfer and enhance Nigeria’s competitiveness in the regional energy and manufacturing industries.
For Neuman & Esser, the project forms part of its broader African expansion strategy of establishing regional service hubs that bring engineering expertise closer to customers while building sustainable local partnerships.
For Nigeria, it is another indication that international engineering companies increasingly view the country as a strategic destination for long-term industrial investment.
