In a surprising turn of events ahead of the upcoming governorship election in Osun State, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, has declared its support for Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The endorsement was announced during a gathering at the WOCDIF Event Centre in Osogbo, where Oyinlola stated that the decision was made in the interest of the state’s future. He emphasized that while the group remains loyal members of the PDP, the welfare of Osun State takes precedence over party loyalty.
“Our membership of the PDP is not in question; however, we cannot ignore the larger interests of the people we have served,” Oyinlola remarked. He criticized the current administration for its failure to engage political stakeholders and asserted the need for a change in governance direction.
Among those present were Fatai Akinbade, a former governorship candidate and Secretary to the State Government, and Taju Oladipo, a former South-West Vice Chairman of the PDP. They joined Oyinlola in rallying support for Oyebamiji, highlighting concerns over the inclusivity of current governance.
Oyebamiji, upon receiving the endorsement, committed to fostering an inclusive administration if elected. He assured the gathered stakeholders that their insights would be valued in decision-making processes.
The APC Campaign Council’s Director-General, Wole Oke, also encouraged members of the PDP faction to mobilize support for Oyebamiji in their local areas, promising that an APC-led administration would prioritize inclusive governance.
