Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has revealed that his government has presented a set of peace proposals to U.S. negotiators in a bid to establish a framework for ending the ongoing war with Russia. During a recent media address, Zelensky confirmed that the proposals have been sent to Washington and emphasized the importance of U.S. involvement in both diplomatic efforts and military support.
Zelensky stated, “We have conveyed our proposals to the American side. And the United States can help strengthen our defense, first and foremost with air defense, and put pressure on Russia so that its plans are different — to prepare for an end to the war rather than prolonging it.” The exact contents of the proposals have not been made public.
The timing of this diplomatic initiative coincides with an anticipated visit from U.S. negotiators Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner to Ukraine and Russia. The American envoys have previously engaged in discussions in Moscow but have yet to visit Kyiv.
In addition to the proposed negotiations, Zelensky expressed concerns that Russian authorities may leverage the upcoming parliamentary elections to justify a new wave of military mobilization aimed at continuing the conflict.
Despite ongoing hostilities, Ukraine continues to call for a ceasefire after nearly four and a half years of fighting. Moscow has maintained that any peace agreement must stipulate Ukraine’s withdrawal from four contested regions while addressing the underlying issues of the conflict.
