More than 20 individuals have been killed and several others injured following an assault on the Binper community in the Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State. The incident occurred between midnight and the early hours of Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that heavily armed assailants invaded homes, attacking unsuspecting residents as they slept. One community member, Daniel Musa, described the harrowing scene as the attackers moved from house to house.
“Our village came under attack last night and in the early hours of today by heavily armed persons,” Musa stated. He confirmed the tragic outcome, indicating over 20 deaths and several injuries, with some residents unaccounted for.
Another resident, John Dalyop, expressed concern over the security situation and called for immediate action from the local police. He categorized the attack as barbaric and urged both state and federal governments to enhance security in vulnerable areas.
Injured victims have been transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment, while community leaders work to determine the whereabouts of those missing. Reports indicate that security forces were dispatched to the area on Tuesday morning to restore order and prevent additional violence.
