The Nigerian Army has reported the successful rescue of 13 kidnapped individuals and the interception of 300 rounds of ammunition as part of ongoing military operations across the country.
In an operational update disclosed on September 10, the Army detailed incidents that took place between September 9 and 10. Under Operation MESA, troops from the 195 Battalion rescued 10 victims from the Elon/Ikakumo Forest in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area and also recovered the remains of another victim. The individuals rescued were subsequently handed over to local police for further processing.
Meanwhile, Operation ENDURING PEACE saw troops neutralizing a suspected kidnapper in the Angwan Boka area of Plateau State, prompting additional kidnappers to flee. A locally made AK-47 rifle and six rounds of specialized ammunition were recovered during this incident.
During a separate confrontation, troops responded to gunfire along the Jos-Makurdi road, rescuing three victims who had sustained gunshot injuries while the kidnappers escaped with two others. The rescued individuals were taken to a nearby health center for medical attention, while efforts continue to locate the remaining abductees.
Further operations included a fighting patrol in Kogul village, where soldiers faced suspected militia forces, resulting in one injured soldier being evacuated for care. Troops also apprehended four stray cattle in Mangu, taking them into military custody.
In a related operation in Buruku town, Kaduna, a female suspect believed to be supplying terrorist logistics was arrested with 300 rounds of ammunition concealed in her bag. Preliminary investigations indicated her journey from Zamfara to Lafia for ammunition distribution.
In Rivers State, troops were involved in multiple operations against illegal bunkering, resulting in the arrest of a suspect and discovery of illegal refining sites containing stolen oil and equipment.
Additionally, a trailer transporting illegally mined ilmenite was intercepted in Delta State. Troops are following up on these cases to ensure further appropriate actions are taken.
The report also mentioned the recovery of the body of a soldier who tragically fell from a houseboat in Bayelsa, as well as the arrest of three impostors in military camouflages in Delta, who claimed to be artists filming comedy skits.
