In a tragic incident in Plateau State, Nigeria, a lone survivor has recounted the harrowing details of an attack on a commercial bus that resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, including eight passengers and the driver.
The survivor, Nasiru Garba, who was working as the bus conductor, shared his experience following the attack at Dungus Junction. He revealed that he hid inside the vehicle as gunmen approached and opened fire, killing those who had just exited the bus as well as those still inside.
According to Garba, the incident unfolded shortly after the bus had made a stop to drop off passengers. “After they alighted, the driver got down to collect the transport fare. I was in front of the bus waiting for the driver,” he said. As gunmen attacked, Garba bent down to avoid detection, managing to survive while the assailants searched the bus and stole his belongings.
Reports indicate that the attacks occurred on a Sunday night and affected communities in Jos South, Mangu, and Riyom Local Government Areas. In addition to the bus attack, two additional people were killed in Vodni, Mangu, and another two in Tahoos, Riyom during separate assaults.
In response to the violence, the Plateau State Government has condemned these attacks. The Commissioner for Information and Communication, Joyce Ramnap, emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing security measures in collaboration with various stakeholders and called for residents to remain vigilant.
This recent surge in violence has raised concerns among community members and authorities alike, as the state government works to establish a more effective security framework targeting these disturbing incidents.
