Muhammadu Sanusi II, the Emir of Kano, emphasized the importance of responsible investment at a recent IPO roadshow for the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and Petrochemicals in Kano State. Speaking before a gathering of investors, bankers, and traditional leaders, Sanusi advised against selling one’s home or reallocating children’s school fees to purchase shares.
He cautioned prospective investors to only invest amounts they can afford to set aside, suggesting initial investments of ₦10,000 or ₦20,000. Sanusi highlighted the importance of a long-term investment perspective, encouraging individuals to consider the future growth potential of their contributions to the refinery.
Sanusi also expressed pride in the entrepreneurial spirit of Kano, noting that the region has historically produced successful business figures like Aliko Dangote. He stated that the Dangote refinery represents a significant shift in Nigeria’s economic landscape, moving from dependency on imported refined petroleum to becoming an exporter. This shift, he argued, could strengthen Nigeria’s economy and contribute to the development of vital sectors.
The IPO, which started on September 14, 2026, includes 4.1 billion shares priced at ₦525 each. The offer is open until October 13, 2026, targeting diverse investors to enhance participation in Nigeria’s capital markets.
In closing, Sanusi encouraged all Nigerians to become stakeholders in the refinery, emphasizing collective ownership and the economic benefits that could arise from this investment opportunity.
