Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, asserted that Senator Ireti Kingibe will not secure a return to the National Assembly in 2027. His comments came during a recent inspection of road construction projects in the FCT, where he responded to accusations from Kingibe about the procurement of loans without National Assembly approval.
Describing Kingibe as an ‘illiterate,’ Wike defended the practices of the FCT Administration, stating that all loans were formally approved and processed according to regulations. He emphasized that loans taken by the administration were included in the budget, dismissing Kingibe’s concerns as politically motivated.
Wike further insinuated that Kingibe’s criticisms stem from her declining political relevance amidst the support for President Bola Tinubu and his candidate for the FCT Senate seat, Philip Aduda. He remarked, ‘When the time is right, let her pack her bags out,’ suggesting that residents have made their choice in the upcoming elections.
In response to Kingibe’s accusations, he urged that the more pertinent inquiry should focus on whether the loans are being effectively utilized for development rather than the loans themselves. Wike expressed his belief that the ongoing project inspections serve as evidence of his commitment to governance and development.
Concerning the status of the inspected projects, Wike conveyed satisfaction with the progress made, indicating that they will ultimately benefit the local communities economically. He highlighted that the happiness of residents is central to governance.
