The Nigerian military has announced major achievements during the third quarter of 2026, reporting the elimination of 554 terrorists and other criminals. Additionally, security forces apprehended 1,333 individuals and rescued 1,736 civilians who had been kidnapped.
Major General Michael Onoja, Director of Defence Military Operations, disclosed that 333 militants surrendered to troops, alongside the recovery of 244 weapons and over 8,000 rounds of ammunition. The military also dismantled 104 illegal refining locations and seized more than 1.6 million liters of stolen petroleum products, marking a significant blow to criminal activities nationwide.
During a press briefing, General Onoja detailed the operational landscape, noting that the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) faced 367 attacks across various operations. Among these, Operation Fansan Yamma experienced the highest number with 115 attacks, followed by Operation Enduring Peace with 147 incidents.
Throughout this period, the military’s response was swift, utilizing superior firepower and tactical maneuvers to counter the attacks effectively. However, the report also highlighted a fluctuating trend in operational effectiveness, with a substantial increase in criminal confrontations recorded during August, followed by a decline in subsequent months.
Despite these variations, the data reflects a sustained commitment from military personnel to ensure national security and protect economic resources. The military’s endeavors reportedly continue to adapt to the changing landscape of operations.
