The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, has reportedly endorsed a renewed and thorough investigation into the death of popular singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, commonly known as Mohbad. This decision follows a petition from the singer’s family, conveyed through their lawyer Oladayo Ogungbe, which highlights concerns over the previous investigative process.
The family submitted their petition to the Inspector-General on April 14, 2026, and it was acknowledged by the Force Headquarters in Abuja on May 7. Ogungbe expressed that the petition called for a meticulous forensic analysis, citing inconsistencies in prior investigations.
Despite a recent ruling from the Federal High Court in Abuja that dismissed a related suit on September 25, 2026, Ogungbe clarified that this legal action was independent of the family’s petition to the police and did not originate from the family’s authority.
Following the Inspector-General’s approval, the petition has been directed to the Lagos State Police Command. The family has been informed that the investigation is now in the hands of the Special Enquiry Bureau, and they have begun interacting with the newly assigned investigative team.
Ogungbe emphasized the family’s commitment to collaborating with the police and urged for the investigation to be conducted with thoroughness, integrity, and professionalism, ensuring that all relevant individuals and circumstances are scrutinized.
