In a renewed effort to garner support for President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, Vice President Kashim Shettima addressed concerns among northern Nigerians, assuring them that they have nothing to fear from another term of Tinubu’s leadership.
During a meeting at the State House in Abuja with a delegation from Arewa for Asiwaju (A4A), a northern political advocacy group, Shettima urged political leaders and citizens in the North to rally behind the president, highlighting the benefits the region has already received under Tinubu’s administration. He spoke about key initiatives, including numerous political appointments, agricultural interventions, and infrastructure projects that have positively impacted the area.
Shettima indicated that uniting for Tinubu’s re-election would help consolidate the gains made during his current term. He cited the Bank of Agriculture’s significant disbursement of N450 billion to 700,000 smallholder farmers across Nigeria, with approximately 70 percent of the beneficiaries located in the North.
The Vice President reassured attendees of the administration’s commitment to further infrastructure development and projects aimed at enhancing the welfare of northern citizens. He expressed gratitude for the steadfast support shown by political organizations like A4A and urged members to intensify their outreach efforts as the electoral race heats up.
In a related statement, Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris noted that Nigeria’s economic reforms under Tinubu were beginning to produce positive results, citing improvements such as reduced inflation and increased foreign exchange reserves. While acknowledging ongoing cost-of-living challenges faced by many Nigerians, he emphasized that the government is focused on translating these economic indicators into tangible benefits for households across the country.
Further endorsing Tinubu’s bid for another four years, Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology Dr. Kingsley Udeh defended the president’s policies as necessary to complete his economic reform agenda.
Despite facing economic pressures, the ministers highlighted that the government’s reforms are designed to stimulate both the agricultural sector and overall economic growth, which will ultimately improve the living conditions for ordinary citizens. Shettima concluded his remarks by reinforcing the importance of unity in achieving the development goals of the North.
