Nigeria’s U17 women’s national football team, known as the Flamingos, has made history by reaching the final of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup for the first time. The team secured their spot in the championship match after defeating Brazil 3-1 in the semi-finals held on November 4.
The match showcased strong performances from Nigerian players, particularly Awawu Bashiru, who scored two of the team’s goals. Queen Joseph started the scoring in the 56th minute, followed by Bashiru, who extended the lead with goals in the 71st and 80th minutes, effectively sealing the victory for Nigeria.
This accomplishment marks a significant improvement from the team’s previous showing, where they finished third in the 2022 edition of the tournament. With this triumph, the Flamingos will now face Japan in the final as they aim for their first-ever FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup title.
