A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted bail to Nollywood actress Doris Ogala in the amount of ₦30 million, with two sureties required. The ruling, made by Justice Akintayo Aluko, includes restrictions aimed at preventing the actress from intimidating prosecution witnesses.
The conditions imposed include a prohibition on electronic publications that could result in harassment or intimidation of witnesses, and a directive for Ogala to maintain conduct that does not disrupt court proceedings. Justice Aluko emphasized that these measures were necessary to balance Ogala’s right to liberty with the need for justice and the protection of witnesses.
The judge expressed concerns regarding Ogala’s behavior during a court session on October 28, 2026, which reportedly led to several cases being adjourned. Although she has apologized for her actions, the judge underscored the need for strict oversight to ensure trial integrity.
In support of her bail application, Ogala’s legal counsel cited health issues and her political ambitions in Abia State. They argued that her continued detention would hinder her ability to prepare a defense. The prosecution, however, opposed the bail, citing concerns over her previous absences and alleging that she used social media to harass the complainant and potential witnesses.
Under the bail terms, Ogala must provide two sureties, with specific requirements regarding property ownership and means of verification. She is also required to surrender her international passport and undertake to maintain good behavior throughout the trial process.
Ogala is currently facing charges related to the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Amendment Act of 2024, accused of publishing private photos of Pastor Chris Okafor without consent and other serious allegations. The court proceedings are set to continue following the resolution of the bail terms.
