President Bola Tinubu visited Akwa Ibom State, where he reassured Nigerian citizens of a better future while critiquing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and NDC presidential candidate Peter Obi for their leadership capabilities. Tinubu, representing the All Progressives Congress, called on voters to support his administration and Governor Umo Eno, underlining that continuous governance is essential for ongoing development.
However, the visit was marred by a tragic road accident involving an Akwa Ibom State Transport Corporation bus transporting women to welcome the President. The bus collided with a security Hilux van on Oron Road, leading to one feared fatality and several injuries.
At a rally, Tinubu reflected on his historical ties to Akwa Ibom, sharing his earlier employment experiences with Mobil Oil. He encouraged young voters to secure their Permanent Voter Cards, which he termed their most crucial tool for shaping the nation’s political landscape.
Looking ahead to the upcoming January 16, 2027 election, Tinubu insisted on the significance of this election for the country’s future. He claimed his administration had rescued Nigeria from the brink of economic collapse and asserted that his policies would continue to promote education, infrastructure, and job creation.
In response to Governor Eno’s request, Tinubu announced the approval of the Ibom Deep Sea Port, promising it would foster economic growth in the region. His visit included praise for Eno’s efforts in environmental reclamation and development.
The bus accident, which occurred while women were heading to the airport, is currently under investigation by the Federal Road Safety Corps, with reports indicating serious injuries among those involved.
