Solomon Adesanya, newly elected to represent District 43 in the Georgia House of Representatives, emphasizes the need for politicians to focus on their communities rather than personal interests. Speaking on a recent program, he linked the difficulties faced by American residents, such as rising tariffs and the overall cost of living, to the results of the 2026 midterm elections.
Adesanya remarked that the election revolved around significant issues affecting ordinary citizens. He mentioned the struggles of workers, saying, “It was about the everyday struggle of ordinary people,” pointing to parents working multiple jobs to provide basic necessities.
He articulated that voters are seeking a government that is attuned to their experiences, adding that “people are tired of an economy where the cost of living keeps rising.” He stated that the message from the recent elections was clear: hard work must translate into economic security, not continual financial hardship.
Adesanya criticized past economic policies, attributing the high cost of living to decisions made during Donald Trump’s presidency, including escalating tariffs on several key trading partners. He noted that these tariffs contributed to significant financial strain for Americans, particularly in Georgia.
In light of these concerns, Adesanya has pledged to advocate for legislation aimed at increasing the state minimum wage to $15 per hour. He highlighted the stagnation of the federal minimum wage since 2009 amid soaring living expenses, underscoring the urgency of addressing affordability issues that affect families.
Additionally, Adesanya was one of several Nigerian-Americans who won seats in local and state government during the midterm elections, exemplifying a broader trend of increased representation in various states.
