Vice-President Kashim Shettima and Edo North Senator Adams Oshiomhole brought energy to an All Progressives Congress (APC) rally in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, by dancing to Kizz Daniel’s popular hit song, ‘Buga’. This event took place as they supported President Bola Tinubu’s re-election campaign for 2027.
The pair showcased their dance moves on stage in front of enthusiastic party supporters and dignitaries during the rally held on Friday, which quickly garnered attention on social media.
‘Buga’, released in May 2022, has gained popularity among Nigerian politicians as a lively backdrop for public engagements. The song’s catchy rhythms and associated dance movements have made it a staple at rallies, helping to energize crowds and create a relatable atmosphere for candidates.
During the Uyo rally, projects inaugurated included the international terminal building at Victor Attah International Airport, along with several other infrastructure developments led by the administration of Governor Umo Eno. The occasion marked part of President Tinubu’s visit to the state, where he was accompanied by First Lady Oluremi Tinubu and received a warm welcome from prominent local officials.
Previous instances of politicians dancing to ‘Buga’ indicate its growing influence in Nigeria’s political landscape. For example, former Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo also performed the song during a world tourism conference in Lagos in November 2022. Similarly, President Tinubu was seen dancing to ‘Buga’ during various campaign events, emphasizing its role in bridging cultural expressions with political engagements.
As ‘Buga’ continues to resonate within the political sphere, it is clear that Nigerian politicians are leveraging the song’s appeal to connect more deeply with their audiences.
