President Bola Tinubu asserted that the value of the Naira would have plummeted to the point where it would require a wheelbarrow to transport if not for the economic policies implemented by his administration. During a recent visit to Akwa Ibom State, he emphasized the importance of these measures in stabilizing Nigeria’s economy and avoiding financial collapse.
As he campaigned for support ahead of the January 16, 2027 election, which he deemed critical for Nigeria’s future, Tinubu highlighted the previous difficulties faced by state governments in meeting payroll obligations. He remarked that, at one point, 27 out of 36 governors could not pay salaries, indicating the severity of the economic crisis. However, he expressed confidence that Nigeria has emerged from what he defined as a ‘tunnel of despair’ and economic uncertainty.
Referring to the current exchange rate, he noted that the Naira remains relatively stable at 1,300 to a dollar, arguing that without his administration’s interventions, it could have been much worse.
Tinubu also urged young voters to acquire their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), calling it an essential tool for influencing the nation’s political landscape. Furthermore, at a reception in his honor at Ibom Palm Resort, he praised Akwa Ibom Governor Umo Eno and pointed to the resort as an example of effective leadership and successful land reclamation efforts.
