The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has announced that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will indeed participate in the upcoming 2027 general elections, despite a Federal High Court ruling that voided the leadership of the party’s David Mark-led faction.
Keyamo’s comments came in response to concerns over whether the ADC would be able to field candidates following the court’s decision to invalidate the presidential primary that produced former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar as the party’s candidate. He noted that while the party itself would be on the ballot, it remains uncertain if candidates from the Mark faction, including Atiku, would qualify.
In a post on social media, Keyamo emphasized that misinformation is being spread regarding the court’s ruling. He stated, “It is the David Mark faction of candidates, including Atiku Abubakar, that may not be on the ballot, depending on the final judgment of the Supreme Court.”
The High Court’s ruling, which occurred on Thursday, has raised questions about the party’s future and its candidates. The ADC has announced its intention to appeal the ruling.
Keyamo further challenged critics of the judgment, advocating that the rights of candidates from the ADC’s original leadership should not be overlooked. He questioned why protests were erupting against the ruling and defended the legitimacy of those who emerged from the party’s established leadership structure.
As it stands, both Atiku and the ADC plan to contest against the court’s decision, with the matter likely to be escalated to the Supreme Court for a final ruling.
