General Theophilus Danjuma (rtd) has urged the people of Adamawa to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s bid for re-election in the 2027 general elections, advising them to turn away from backing former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar. He emphasized that the Tinubu administration has appointed a significant number of Christians to key government positions, which he believes has positively impacted the nation’s progress and development.
Danjuma made his appeal during the 20th anniversary celebration of the Adamawa Government House Chapel in Yola, where he announced a donation of N250 million for the chapel’s expansion and the construction of residences for its chaplain and deputy. He was represented at this event by General Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd).
The anniversary, themed ‘Thus far has the Lord helped us,’ attracted numerous dignitaries including government officials, former governors, and religious leaders. During his remarks, Danjuma praised the vision and commitment of the chapel’s founders and organizers for their contributions to the establishment and growth of the chapel over the past two decades.
First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also addressed the gathering, calling on youth, particularly Christian youth, to avoid political violence and to participate peacefully in the upcoming elections. Represented by the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, Professor Kaletapwa Farauta, she encouraged young individuals to resist being exploited by politicians for their own interests and to foster a spirit of peace and responsible political engagement.
Farauta, who echoed sentiments from Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, added that the chapel should be a unifying entity for Christians across varied denominations. Fintiri urged members to maintain the chapel’s spiritual activities, reinforcing the importance of unity and cooperation in the state.
Former Governor Boni Haruna, who founded the Government House Chapel, explained that it was established in 2005 to maintain equitable representation of religions within the Government House complex, fulfilling the original architectural design which included both a chapel and a mosque to promote harmony.
The celebration also included award presentations to various dignitaries, celebrating faith and perseverance, while ties to religious diversity were acknowledged. Notable contributions were made during the event by various dignitaries, including Boss Mustapha, Boni Haruna, and Senator Amos Yohana.
