USAfrica: Kenya’s President Mwai Kibaki has promised full investigations into the cause of the helicopter crash over the weekend near Nairobi which killed senior Minister Prof. George Saitoti, Assistant Minister Orwa Ojode, two pilots and two bodyguards/security officers. thorough investigations on the cause of the crash, I appeal to all Kenyans to remain calm.”

George Saitoti served as Internal Security Minister. He was expected to run as a candidate for president in March 2013.

Kenya’s Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said that “As we speak now, nobody knows the cause of the accident…. Nobody knows, and that’s why the experts are going to carry out investigations.”

Meanwhile, Johnnie Carson, the U.S assistant secretary of state for African affairs, said during a visit to Kenya on Sunday that Kenya “has lost one of its most outstanding public servants.”

Another American international security official in Washington DC told USAfrica andUSAfricaonline.com that “Mr. Saitoti was a firm hand in the roles of Kenya against regional terrorism by some groups such as the Somali group al Shabaab.. It’s a major loss.”
