Nigerian police spokesman Emmanuel Ojukwu said that authorities recovered the children this morning, four days after gunmen seized them from a school bus travelling in Nigeria’s Abia state, a brazen attack highlighting the growing insecurity in the West African nation.
They were abducted from a bus on their way to school in Abayi, near Abia State’s city of Aba. See USAfrica related reports on this news. Ojukwu said the nursery and primary school pupils were in good condition and would soon be reunited with their parents. He said he did not have any details about what led to the children’s release, nor did he know if a ransom had been paid.
Most kidnap victims are released in a week or two after their families pay a ransom.
