Some members of the Nigerian Army are reported to have intercepted an international ammunition smuggling syndicate driving to Anambra State. They were apprehended during a ‘stop and search’ activity along Ajilete-Owode Road in Yewa North LGA of Ogun State in the southwest section of Nigeria.
According to the arrested suspects, the alleged intended destination was Onitsha, Anambra State.
Soldiers from the 192 Battalion stopped their truck which has a plate number (ENU 697 XY). According to the report from the army, the syndicate had 720 cartons of Red Star cartridges, each containing 25 cartridges (amounting to 18,000 cartridges), along with 250 packets of live cartridges of pellet black (totaling 2,500 cartridges) of the same calibre.
The key suspect/smuggler is Mr. Eric Seworvor, a Ghanaian citizen. He is being detained with the driver.. The stacks of ammunition were, allegedly, transported from the country of Mali.
