Abbas Balarabe, the ministerial candidate for Kaduna State, passed out while being screened by the Senate.
Following his presentation to the parliamentarians, Balarabe passed out as one of the Kaduna senators was congratulating him.
After he passed out, GodsWill Akpabio, the Senate President, yelled, “Bring water and sugar. Phone Dr. Musa.
Akpabio then made an instant request for a private meeting.
Balarabe was nominated as a replacement for the former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai.
Akpabio read a letter containing his name during the plenary on Tuesday (October 3, 2023).
Along with Dr. Jamila Ibrahaim and Ayodele Olawande, who had previously been nominated by the President as Minister of Youths and Minister of State for Youths, respectively, Balarabe’s name was also announced.
Prior to Uba Sani’s inauguration, Balarabe, a former secretary to the Kaduna State government, was chosen in April to head a 65-member transition committee.
El-Rufai’s candidacy, together with those of Stella Okotete (Delta State), a former managing director of Nexim Bank, and Abubakar Danlandi (from Taraba State), had been rejected by the Senate in August.
The Senate approved 45 of the 48 nominees the President had previously submitted, making them ministers.
