President-elect Donald Trump, speaking at a high-energy rally on the eve of his inauguration, vowed to initiate immediate and transformative changes to the federal government. He pledged to realign federal priorities with unprecedented speed, declaring that his administration would bring an end to “four long years of American decline.”
The event, held at the Capital One Arena in downtown Washington, attracted a nearly full crowd of over 20,000 supporters. The rally served as a celebratory precursor to his inauguration, branded as a “Make America Great” victory celebration. Trump received enthusiastic applause as he outlined plans to take swift action on a range of issues, including strengthening the U.S.-Mexico border, expanding oil drilling, reducing the federal workforce, and eliminating diversity programs.
“We’re going to give them the best first day, the biggest first week, and the most extraordinary first 100 days of any presidency in American history,” Trump proclaimed. He also committed to reversing several executive actions implemented by outgoing President Joe Biden, promising to do so “within hours.”
In a notable departure from typical entrances, Trump descended from the concourse level of the arena, greeting supporters, pumping his fist, and posing for photos before taking the stage. Adding to the unconventional atmosphere, the Village People performed their hit song “YMCA” after Trump’s speech. The president-elect joined in briefly, singing and dancing to what has become an unofficial anthem of his campaign.
Trump emphasized his readiness to act decisively once in office. “You’re going to see executive orders that are going to make you extremely happy. Lots of them,” he told the crowd.
At a subsequent dinner reception, he reiterated his commitment to immediate action. “Tomorrow we will not waste a single moment,” he assured attendees.
Sunday marked Trump’s first full day back in Washington since his Election Day victory. The rally provided an opportunity to energize his core supporters ahead of the official inauguration ceremonies.
