The Federal Government is focused on improving the healthcare delivery system across the nation, as articulated by the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Daju Kachollom. Her remarks came during the inauguration of several projects at the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), marking a year of leadership under Chief Medical Director Prof. Idia Ize-Iyamu.
Represented by Dr. Philip Ugbodaga, Medical Director of the National Orthopedic Hospital, Kachollom urged support for President Bola Tinubu’s initiatives aimed at energizing the health sector. She emphasized the government’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Kachollom praised Ize-Iyamu for her successful management and visionary leadership as the first female CMD of UBTH, noting her significant achievements over the past year. She highlighted the unveiling of the Special Investigation Unit and other facilities as demonstrations of the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming healthcare delivery.
The projects inaugurated include a renovated 65-bed Accident and Emergency complex, an expanded mortuary, new renal dialysis units, a child-friendly pediatric clinic, and upgraded theater facilities. Ize-Iyamu explained that these improvements were made to enhance patient care and ensure world-class healthcare services.
Furthermore, she discussed the hospital’s plans to extend services to underserved communities through a new comprehensive health center in Udo, where free medical treatments will be provided to approximately 5,000 individuals.
Ize-Iyamu extended gratitude to the Federal Ministry of Health and various stakeholders for their continued support, reaffirming the hospital’s commitment to delivering quality healthcare regardless of patients’ backgrounds.
