President Bola Tinubu has directed a comprehensive forensic audit of federal government institutions, aiming to address issues of fraud and inefficiencies. This initiative comes after revelations from the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) concerning the presence of fake agencies and ghost workers.
The audit will focus on the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS) and will assess the administrative controls of various federal entities. Minister of Finance and Co-ordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Taiwo Oyedele, has been tasked with overseeing this critical evaluation.
President Tinubu emphasized the importance of national security, asserting that securing lives is essential for Nigeria’s economic development. He reiterated that a secure environment is paramount for fostering business growth and attracting investments, a point reinforced during a graduation ceremony for National Defence College Course 34.
The forensic audit will consist of two parts: one evaluating the systems of personnel, payroll, and financial management, and the other reviewing all federal agencies to establish a comprehensive inventory and governance controls. The goal is not only to identify fraud but also to strengthen the overall framework of government operations.
In parallel with these developments, Tinubu called for unity among the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party prepares for the upcoming 2027 elections. He encouraged local mobilization efforts by party governors to engage citizens effectively, ensuring that the governance agenda addresses poverty reduction and economic welfare.
With the groundwork laid for extensive audits and political strategies, the administration aims to enhance transparency and institutional integrity within Nigeria’s government systems.
