The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is taking significant steps to forge a unified campaign approach for the 2027 elections. Key figures, including presidential candidate Peter Obi, his running mate Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, and National Leader Senator Henry Seriake Dickson, have been engaged in high-level consultations aimed at strengthening the party’s national structure.
Recent discussions, which were held at Dickson’s residence in Abuja, have seen the involvement of other senior party officials, including NDC National Chairman Senator Moses Cleopas Zuwoghe and the two Deputy National Chairmen. These meetings highlight the urgency to create a coordinated campaign framework as the elections approach.
In addition to strategizing the unveiling of a national campaign council, the discussions have emphasized resolving outstanding issues within the party, thereby paving the way for a more effective campaign strategy. The NDC has directed its candidates to commence their campaigns in their respective states, in line with the schedule established by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
As campaign activities ramp up, these consultations aim to harmonize efforts among the party’s candidates across various levels, from presidential to state assembly. Dickson has publicly called for unity within the party, urging members to work together towards electoral victory.
This renewed focus on collective action comes as the NDC aims to build a strong political platform to challenge the opposition in the upcoming elections. The role of the proposed campaign council is expected to be pivotal in coordinating the party’s nationwide efforts.
Despite speculations regarding financial constraints affecting the campaign, NDC’s National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, dismissed such claims, asserting that the party is not obligated to match rival APC’s timelines. He emphasized that the NDC’s campaign funding is sound and that announcements regarding the campaign council will be made after thorough consultations.
