Olalekan Ajagungbade, known as Emir in political circles, was shot dead in Osun State while attending a meeting at a motor park in Ile-Ife. Reports indicate that he was targeted specifically while attempting to assert control over the motor parks from the current leadership of the commercial drivers, led by Nurudeen Alowonle.
The incident has escalated tensions in the area, prompting Governor Ademola Adeleke to instruct the Osun State police command to identify and apprehend those responsible for the murder. In a statement released by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke called for calm and directed a temporary evacuation of the motor parks from competing factions.
To enhance order, the governor announced plans for an Executive Order to create a Park Management System aimed at restoring discipline. He also ordered security agencies to ensure law and order in the region following the incident.
