The National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raised an alert concerning the circulation of a suspected counterfeit toothpaste known as ORACIRE+ TOOTHPASTE in Nigeria. This product is being marketed under the name of the registered ORACARE+ Toothpaste.
The announcement, made today on social media, follows a formal complaint and a market intelligence report that highlighted its widespread availability. NAFDAC officials conducted market surveillance at Ojuwoye Market in Mushin, Lagos, where they noted that the counterfeit product closely mimics the packaging and design of the legitimate ORACARE+ Toothpaste, complicating the identification process for consumers.
Concerns have been raised regarding the quality and safety standards of the fake product, which could pose health risks if used. In response, NAFDAC has initiated surveillance efforts and directed all zonal directors and state coordinators to investigate the distribution of the counterfeit product and take necessary regulatory actions.
The agency has urged consumers, distributors, retailers, and healthcare providers to exercise caution when purchasing ORACARE+ Toothpaste. They are advised to buy only from reputable and authorized outlets and to carefully scrutinize product packaging and sourcing before making a purchase.
Additionally, consumers who suspect they have encountered the counterfeit toothpaste are encouraged to report their findings to the nearest NAFDAC office, call 0800-162-3322, or reach out via the Med Safety App available for both Android and iOS devices.
