Authorities in Taraba State have confirmed that ten individuals lost their lives during an attack on Binnari community in the Karim-Lamido Local Government Area. This incident occurred in the early hours of Friday in Amar Ward, stirring significant unrest among local residents.
Victor Mshelizah, the police spokesperson for the state, confirmed the fatalities and noted that security personnel have been dispatched to the affected area to assess and manage the situation. “There was an incident that happened yesterday, an attack by unknown gunmen that claimed the lives of ten people. We currently have men deployed there,” Mshelizah stated.
While the police have not disclosed further details regarding the motives or identities of the attackers, local sources indicated that the assailants may have originated from the neighboring Plateau State. Witnesses described a sudden and violent raid in which homes were set ablaze and significant food supplies were destroyed, reportedly amounting to millions of naira.
The aftermath of the attack forced numerous residents to abandon their homes and seek shelter in surrounding communities. Some community members are also reported missing following the violence. Although residents attempted to call for help during the chaos, reports suggest that assistance arrived too late to avert the tragedy.
This horrifying event has raised serious concerns over the security situation in Karim-Lamido, prompting calls from residents for the Taraba State Government and security agencies to enhance protective measures and prevent future occurrences of such violence.
