The Governor of Anambra State, Charles Soludo, has expressed that supporting President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 elections may open doors for an Igbo presidency in subsequent years. Soludo articulated his views during a recent event, emphasizing that backing the current southern president is essential for the southeastern region.
Speaking in the Igbo language, Soludo pointed out that supporting Tinubu could encourage other regions to consider an Igbo candidate when power shifts back to the South. He mentioned that political power should rotate among various groups and highlighted the importance of collaboration during this transitional phase.
“Now that it is a Southerner holding the power, it’s remaining four years. It is now left for us (Igbos) to support him so that when it goes to the North and comes back, we can now trust that every southerner and northerner will support us,” he stated.
Soludo also indicated that he had no aspirations for a third term as governor, stating, “Everyone must be given the opportunity to be able to rise.” His comments regarding political alliances have sparked various reactions, reflecting differing opinions within the community.
