Super Eagles winger Samuel Chukwueze has been ruled out of Nigeria’s upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying matches against Tanzania due to a recent hip surgery. The AC Milan forward underwent the operation in London to address a ruptured tendon in his left hip, an injury he sustained in October.
The surgery, performed by Professor Ernest Schilders in the presence of AC Milan medical team member Stefano Mazzoni, was deemed successful. Following the procedure, Chukwueze will return to Italy to begin his rehabilitation program as he aims for a swift recovery.
Chukwueze’s absence will impact the Super Eagles, as he had been a key player under head coach Eric Chelle, contributing significantly since adapting to a new role as a wing-back. Prior to his injury, he had recorded two assists in eight appearances for AC Milan across all competitions.
His recent performances had positioned him as a vital asset for both his club and national squad. The injury has already sidelined him for important matches, including fixtures against Udinese, Inter Milan, Bologna, and Bournemouth.
With Nigeria needing positive outcomes in their AFCON qualifier matches this month, Chukwueze’s recovery will be closely monitored as the team prepares for the challenges ahead.
